Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United States. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is well-known for her direct questions to Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
